The delivery of the 2016 Green Valley Community Directory was completed in March. The delivery went smoothly according to Dan Poppe, spokesperson and President of the SWB Group, which now publishes the Directory. The Green Valley Council has not published the Directory since 2014, but contracted this year for its delivery to Green Valley residents and businesses.
Over 17,000 directories were delivered to the HOAs in two days, March 2nd and 3rd. The directories were delivered to Green Valley businesses during the following two weeks. If you do not have a directory, please stop by the Council’s office or the Green Valley\Sahuarita Chamber of Commerce and pick up your copy.
The success of this year’s delivery was due in large part to our new Delivery Coordinator, Floanne Morgan. Floanne signed a Consultant’s Agreement with the Council in mid-February with an expected delivery date of February 28th. Obviously, with much to do, Floanne immediately started calling the HOA volunteers who had delivered the directories previously. Kathy Ingham, a volunteer from the Health & Human Services Committee and Lisa Coker, our Operations Manager, helped identify old and new volunteers and placed calls to confirm pickup dates and times.
Don Weaver, the Council’s President, agreed to oversee the project and was helpful in making arrangements with Acra Construction to help deliver directories to areas with larger numbers of homes. They placed the directories in their own marketing tote bag, with an insert that described the operations of the Green Valley Council. Don, along with Dan Poppe, also arranged for pick-up of the directories at Canoa Hill Golf Course Club House.
Prior assembly of the number of books needed for each HOA and labeling helped the BAJA (Born Again Jocks Association) volunteers load the directories into the waiting vehicles more effectively and efficiently. The task was made easier as the Directories were packaged in units of 10, although some volunteers were heard to mutter inaudibly when the plastic coverings tore.
A buffet was served on Thursday afternoon at the Las Campanas Social Center. The catered affair (by Mamas BBQ) was SWB’s way of thanking all of the volunteers who worked to deliver the Directories. About 50 attended and listened to Eddie Peabody’s band, the Merry Noise Makers, as gifts sponsored by local businesses were passed out in a drawing. Volunteers Jan and Eldion McNabb who have delivered the Green Valley Directory for 15+ years were singled out for special recognition.
We know that Floanne spent more than 150 hours on coordinating the event, but she is even at a loss on how to calculate all of the time volunteered by the HOA members, BAJA members and Council staff, which number closed to 100. Suffice it to say that these hours easily exceeded 500 hours, and everyone agreed they would “Do IT Again!”
In order to make the Directory even more of a success the SWB Group needs to have the latest information to publish. You can go to the home page of our website to send in your new information and corrections. This information needs to be sent to the SWB Group no later than December 7th.
