Service Line Warranties of America (SLWA)
The Service Line Warranties program is a legitimate program endorsed by the Green Valley Council. The information presented below is intended to clarify the role of the Council and SLWA.
- The Service Line Warranties of America (SLWA) offer three types of protection: (1) the sewer line running through your property connecting the sewer to your residence; (2) the water line running through your property connecting water to your residence; and (3) water lines within the residence.
- The company elected to make these warranties available through different mailings. The one in the fall was for the water line warranty and the one sent in April is for the sewer line. Please be sure to check which insurance you are choosing or have already chosen.
- The Council supports these service line warranty programs and completed a thorough vetting of the company. Executive Board members vetted the company, contacting 8 municipalities from the National League of Cities, which endorses the program. The response for these municipalities, 4 of which were in Arizona, was uniformly positive.
- The Council also negotiated a warranty referral fee of $.50 per product per month: the product is one of the warranty line services. This is one of the revenue sources that helps maintain the Green Valley Council. No one individual profits from this agreement.
- The Council does not give out any mailing addresses. It does provide the Green Valley mailing zip codes, and SLWA buys mailing lists from third-parties.
- The service is completely voluntary in terms of your participation. For example, your residence may have a septic tank, you may already be covered under other insurance, or you may have other risk-management strategies in place. The decision to subscribe to these warranty programs is entirely yours to make.
- SLWA has agreed to the use of the Preferred Vendors Program listing of plumbers and other vendors to fix occurring problems through the claim process. The Council further supports the Service Line Warranties Program and the Preferred Vendors Program by offering free-mediation services in the event a conflict arises during a repair performed under the warranty.
A letter written about a recent resident’s experience with SWLA appears in Community Voices. This letter has been posted because of the concern many residents felt about what appeared to them to be a “scam.”
